Unsilent Night is an outdoor participatory sound event “of many individual parts, recorded on cassettes, CDs, and mp3s, and played through a roving swarm of boomboxes carried through city streets every December.”
The 45 minute event was written by Phil Kline in 1992 specifically for performance outdoors. Since that time it has become a regular part of many winter and solstice celebrations around the world.
Knoxville’s event is under the auspices of Nief-Norf, the contemporary music organization and takes place on Friday evening, December 5. Anyone can participate as long as they have a portable audio device with speakers. For more information, check out Nief-Norf’s sign-up page. Meet at 9:00pm at the
