Want to learn a bit about the internal workings of the opera world and possibly spot new talent before they emerge on the international opera scene? The 2015 Metropolitan Opera National Council Middle/East Tennessee District auditions will take place in Knoxville this year—they alternate between Nashville and Knoxville—and they are open to the public.
The auditions are this Saturday, January 3, and will be held in the Sandra Powell Hall of the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee beginning at 10:00 AM. Entrants in this district are not required to reside here, so it is quite possible to hear singers from throughout the United States. The winner (or winners) go on to the Mid-South Regional competition later in Memphis. The panel of judges will consist of Maestro Jerome Shannon and operatic directors Dean Anthony and Carroll Freeman. Admission is free.
