Concerts on the Square Begin This Thursday

posterThe City of Knoxville and the Central Business Improvement District launches the 2015 Concerts on the Square beginning this Thursday, May 7 on downtown’s historic Market Square. All concerts are FREE. The series consists of Jazz Tuesdays (through August 25) and Variety Thursdays (through June 25). This Thursday’s beginning concert features the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra in a program of classical and pops. The concert begins at 7:30 pm. James Fellenbaum conducts.

Subsequent Variety Thursdays concert events will take place from 7-9 p.m. (unless otherwise noted in the full schedule) on consecutive Thursdays and will cover a number of genres from classical music to Southern rock to swing and Americana.

Jazz Tuesdays, co-sponsored by Prestige Cleaners, will begin on Tuesday, May 12, with the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, performing from 8-10 p.m. The remaining Jazz Tuesday concerts, at 8 p.m. each week from May 19 to Aug. 25, will feature the Marble City 5, led by trumpeter Vance Thompson.
