This week’s installment of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s Concertmaster Series, “Gabriel Lefkowitz and Friends,” features the Shostakovich String Quartet No. 3 as its ensemble work, a replacement for the Brahms sextet which was announced at the beginning of the season. The quartet will consist of Concertmaster Lefkowitz and associate Gordon Tsai (violins), Kathryn Gawne (viola), and Andy Bryenton (cello).
On the first half of the concert, Lefkowitz will be joined by pianist Kevin Class for several works for violin and piano: Caprice basque by Pablo de Sarasate, Rachmaninoff’s Romance (I assume the early work for violin and piano in A minor), the Souvenir in D major for violin and piano by František Drdla, and Tchaikovsky’s Valse-Scherzo in C major, Op. 34.
There are two performances at the Knoxville Museum of Art–Wednesday, April 6, and Thursday, April 7, both at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20.00. http://www.knoxvillesymphony.com or at the door.
