By now, everyone has heard about Delingerfest, a series of events surrounding the music of American composer, Larry Delinger. Along with Delinger’s Composer-in-Residence period with the University of Tennessee School of Music this month and next, Marble City Opera, Knoxville’s chamber opera company, is offering the world premiere of two short Delinger operas, Talk To Me Like the Rain and Amelia Lost. Look for these performances on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon at the Square Room.
Talk To Me Like the Rain is based on a one-act play by Tennessee Williams, Talk To Me Like the Rain and Let Me Listen, in which an unnamed married couple live in a shabby flat on the Lower East Side. He is a drunk and has been away on a bender; she has been waiting for him, eating nothing all the while. When he returns, they painfully explore their inner desires. The two roles are sung by Daniel Webb and Krista Wilhelmsen.
Amelia Lost is a one-woman opera starring Kathryn Frady Marvel as a homeless woman confused about her existence.
Directors are Calvin MacLean and James Marvel with Gene Peterson conducting the instrumental ensemble.
Performances: Thursday evening (Oct 30), 8 p.m. (Doors open at 7:30 p.m.) and Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1) at 2:00 p.m. ( doors at 1:30 p.m.) at the Square Room, 4 Market Square. $12 students/$20 adults general admission.
