At the Knoxville Museum of Art—
Opening May 8 and running through August 2— Evan Roth: Intellectual Property Donor
Just what is a “hacktavist” artist? Find out at this one-person show of Evan Roth—a presentation of interactive installations, custom software, prints, sculpture, and websites—in other words, uses of technology in current urban environments. “Blurring the line between artist and hacker, the exhibition challenges gallery visitors to consider how everyday life intersects with virtual reality and how viral media can become high art.”
From Roth’s official bio:
Evan Roth is an American artist based in Paris whose practice visualizes and archives culture through unintended uses of technologies. Creating prints, sculptures, videos and websites, his work explores the relationship between misuse and empowerment and the effect that philosophies from hacker communities can have when applied to digital and non-digital systems.

Students will interact with works of art in the galleries, and explore different art processes while creating their own works of art. Age-appropriate classes will explore new art adventures as students and caregivers partake in various art-making activities, sensory experiences, and the students’ own personal interests.
