The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s Concertmaster Series of chamber music events, Gabriel Lefkowitz and Friends, opens its 4th season this week on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the Knoxville Museum of Art. What has made the series so charming are the friendly and accessible presentations by Concertmaster Lefkowitz; what has made the series so memorable are the continually impressive and entertaining performances by Lefkowitz and his colleagues from the KSO.
This week’s program consists of three works: the cheerful and rewarding Variations on a Theme by Corelli by Fritz Kreisler, the Mendelssohn Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, and Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Sonata– the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 9 in A Major.
Lefkowitz is joined as usual by pianist Kevin Class; and by cellist Andy Bryenton in the Mendelssohn trio.
The concerts at KMA begin at 7:00 p.m. — doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $20; phone 865-291-3310 or visit http://www.knoxvillesymphony.com. Seating is General Admission. A discount of $5 per concert is available until October 14 for those purchasing tickets for all three concerts.
