The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of William Shaub as its next concertmaster, replacing Gabriel Lefkowitz who has taken the concertmaster position with the Louisville Orchestra following six years with the KSO.
Shaub was one of two finalists for the position. His audition week included the March Masterworks concerts and a solo recital. That recital included violin sonatas by Beethoven and Bach, plus Samuel Adler’s In Memory of Milton Babbitt for solo violin and “Gypsy Airs” from Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen. He returned as guest concertmaster for the May Masterworks season finale last week.

“Born in 1992 in Canton, Ohio, William Shaub was a recipient of the Louis Persinger Scholarship as a student at the Juilliard School, where he received the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in five years. He was a student of Cho-Liang Lin, Emilio Llinas, Stephen Clapp, and studied chamber music with Sylvia Rosenberg. Prior to his appointment as concertmaster of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, he was a student in the coveted Artist Diploma program at Rice University, where he served as concertmaster.”
