Symphony of Voices, a new Knoxville-based professional choral ensemble, presents their inaugural concert this Sunday afternoon at First United Methodist Church, 3316 Kingston Pike, at 2:30 PM.
One sign of the advancement of an art and music scene in a metropolitan area is the appearance of individuals and ensembles that are able to operate independently of the larger organizations and fill a previously unfilled performance niche. Knoxville has seen that kind of successful niche-filling in the last several years with organizations like the chamber opera company Marble City Opera and the Inner Voices String Quartet.
Now, poised to fill a niche as a fully professional choral ensemble in Knoxville is Symphony of Voices. With the name suggesting the ability of the human voice to achieve a rich diversity of vocal textures, this 11–member ensemble offers their first concert this Sunday afternoon with a program titled “Unclouded Day.” Works for the afternoon range from a Moses Hogan arrangement of “My Soul’s been anchored in The Lord,” to the Beatles’ “Blackbird,” from Josef Rheinberger’s “Abendlied” to musical theatre selections like “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen, from “Alleluia” by Eric Whitacre to “Circle of Life” from The Lion King.
Members of Symphony of Voices are:
Sopranos: Jaclyn Johnson, Andrea Markowitz, and Rachel Owens
Altos: Cate Bolden and Hailey Parks
Tenors: William Brimer, Matthew Parks, and Seth Tinsley
Basses: Paul Brysen, Harrison Cooke, and Tyler Owens
