All over the U.S., it is a time of struggle for artists and arts organizations — a struggle to balance the need to continue the creative energy of live performance, with the absolute requirement for safety in the face of the pandemic’s risks. That struggle has led the Big Ears Festival and the Bijou Theatre into a partnership that is introducing programs from each that seek to satisfy those requirements.
‘Live from the Bijou’ will be a series of streaming performances designed to showcase artists known both locally and beyond. Their first program in the series — this Friday, August 21 at 8 PM — will feature the inaugural Sites & Sounds from Big Ears streaming concert. On that concert, Knoxville’s first Poet Laureate, R.B. Morris, will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Greg Horne, bassist Daniel Kimbro, and percussionist Hunter Deacon. R. B. and his band will perform songs from his new record, Going Back To The Sky.
The concert stream will be available through NoonChorus. Tickets are priced at $10 (plus service fees) in advance, then $12 (plus service fees) on the day of performance. After the initial broadcast on Friday, August 21 at 8pm, there will be replays of the concert beginning at 9pm that evening and continuing until 12 midnight on Monday, August 24.
