Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Chamber Classics Series
This Sunday afternoon concert at the Bijou promises to be intriguing, thanks to some interesting programming and interesting performers.
KSO violinists I-Pei Lin and Rachel Loseke will share the solo spot in J.S. Bach’s Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor.
The intrigue continues with Igor Stravinsky’s three movement Octet and its unusual complement of instruments: Flute, two bassoons, B-flat clarinet (doubles on clarinet in A), trumpet in C and trumpet in A, tenor trombone, and bass trombone.
Rudolph Barshai transcribed the five Dmitri Shostakovich String Quartets into “Chamber Symphonies”. The KSO is taking on the Shostakovich String Quartet No. 3 that was arranged into the Chamber Symphony, Op. 73A, with strings and woodwinds.
KSO Chamber Classics (Works by J.S. Bach, Shostakovich, Stravinsky)
