Mysteries abound this year for the Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus—both on and offstage.
Their traditional Holiday Show returns this weekend to sites in Knoxville and Johnson City. This year’s show is Rebel Without a Claus, a program that promises a comical look into “Mysterious events unfold threatening to end Christmas…” Yikes! Rebel Without a Claus will get two performances on Saturday, December 17, at 3:00 and 7:30 PM, at the Bijou Theatre—and at 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 18, at ETSU’s Martin Center for the Performing Arts in Johnson City.
The offstage mystery is coming in the way of a major announcement from the group that will be revealed at the 3:00 PM Knoxville show—an announcement that involves nothing less than a significant evolution for the organization in the form of a rebranding.
KGMC’s founding president, Bleu Copas, offered a hint. “Since our first performance at the 2012 KnoxPride Celebration,” Copas says, “we have served as a space where our members can find a place to belong. We celebrate the growth and many achievements we’ve made over the past decade, and how we’ve found ways to embrace our more and more diverse membership. While we are proud of the strides we’ve made so far, we feel it’s important to reflect on how we can create that same place of belonging for an even more diverse community and bridge the Appalachian region under our shared song.”
Copas continues. “…we know there are more voices we need to hear, voices that matter, and we are excited to be part of creating a space for those voices to sing out their stories and be heard as well. KGMC is evolving into a new name, new look, and new era. We’ve grown, we’ve expanded; and we are ready to do more and more, for more people in more places.”
