Dogwood Arts: “Converge: Coming Together, Embracing Balance”
Dogwood Arts opens a new exhibition on FIRST FRIDAY (March 3) entitled “Converge: Coming Together, Embracing Balance.” The show is a group exhibition featuring artwork by twenty-five local immigrant and refugee artists. The exhibition will be up at the Dogwood Gallery, 123 W. Jackson Avenue, through April 14. Converge is curated by the Inclusion & Community Outreach Coordinator at Dogwood Arts, Jalynn Baker.
Participating artists are Eugenia Almeida, Maria Elena Mendez Aquino, Reem Arnouk, Ilina Arsova, Kybreiana Barham, Jose and Pepe Calabres, Manuel Carreon, Enrique Cruz, Luiza Francisco, Maria Pedro Francisco, Marina Gulevich, Nidhi Jani, Estefania Jose, Markiian Lukyniuk, Mene Manresa, Eve Andres Martin, Hei Park, Dolores Francisco Pedro, Arely Recimos Ramirez, Héctor Saldivar, Antoine Seni, Ruchi Singh, R.E. Toledo, Rocio Valenzuela, and SK Yi.
The First Friday opening reception open to the public at the gallery is from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. From 6:00-7:00 PM, violinist Marki Lukyniuk, a Ukrainian war refugee studying violin performance at UTK, will perform, joined by poetry readings from R. E. Toledo, a UTK Spanish Studies lecturer, poet, and narrator from Mexico City.

Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Pianist Emi Kagawa Performs Mozart
As part of the KSO’s monthly Chamber Classics Series in the acoustic gem that is the Bijou Theatre, KSO pianist Emi Kagawa will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat Major, K. 595. The Sunday afternoon concert will also feature Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5, and lead off with Gioachino Rossini’s Overture to Il Signor Bruschino. The Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Aram Demirjian.

UT Downtown Gallery: Lonnie Holley
The UT Downtown Gallery is presenting a selection of recent works on paper, sculpture, paintings, and short films by Birmingham-born, Atlanta-based artist Lonnie Holley. Known for his found-object sculptures, paintings, and installations, Lonnie Holley gained a new visibilty when he started releasing and performing his music during the 2010s.
Throughout the exhibition that runs March 3 – April 2, 2023, the Gallery will be screening I Snuck Off the Slave Ship, I Went A Little Too Far (Mistreating Love), and I Woke Up… This exhibition is in collaboration with Knoxville’s Big Ears Music Festival, where Holley will be performing at the end of March.
