Visitors to the Red Gallery on Jackson Avenue this month have entered a different side of the painting world, the touring exhibition of Steve Keene’s paintings, known at the Hirschhorn Collection.
However, as Big Ears cranks up March 21 – 24, Steve Keene will actually be painting in a pop-up studio at the Red Gallery, nine hours a day, and making all of the art available available for purchase as soon as it’s dry. Keene works on multiple paintings at one time, using quick-drying acrylic paints and a screen printing process that starts with broad gestures and ends with details.
In addition, the Big Ears Festival Merch Store will be carrying the Steve Keene Art Book (Hat & Bear Press / Tractor Beam).
