We’re talking about the new musical Knoxville, music by composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist Lynn Ahrens with a book by the late Frank Galati, that opens at the Clarence Brown Theatre on Friday, September 6, after previews on September 4 and 5. The musical was adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel A Death in the Family by James Agee.

Clarence Brown Theatre – Lab Theatre: Cry It Out
Molly Smith Metzler, a screenwriter for Orange Is the New Black and Shameless is also a highly sought-after playwright. Her play Cry It Out debuted in 2017 at The Actors Theater of Louisville’s Humana Festival and has received numerous productions around the U.S.
“This heart-warming comedy finds divergent young mothers strike up a friendship during precious nap time. The comedy takes a sharp and honest look at the power of female friendship, the paradox of working motherhood, and the effects that economic and social class has on parenthood in America. “
Directed by Jessica Holt, Cry It Out will open in CBT’s Lab Theatre on Friday, September 20 after two preview performances on September 18 and 19, and run through Saturday, October 5.
