The Amadeus Concert Ensemble, known for its adventurous musical journeys into the rarely heard side of well-known composers, turns to Ludwig van Beethoven as its latest subject this Sunday, February 16, as part of the continuing Cathedral Concert Series. The concert, entitled “The Lighter Side of Beethoven,” ventures past the familiar and serious Beethoven of symphonies, concertos, and chamber music to, as music director Brian Salesky notes, “…his forays into folksongs, dance/vocal/chamber music, marches, and “musical jokes” that reveal the joyous, humorous side of his personality.”
The performers include soprano Mary-Hollis Hundley, soprano Jacqueline Brecheen, alto Diana Salesky, tenor John Overholt, bass-baritone Michael Anthony McGee, the Amadeus Concert Ensemble, and the Knoxville Symphony Youth Choir. Brian Salesky is the Music Director and Conductor.
