Two public events remain in the 2017 nief-norf Summer Festival and the Sixth International Conference on Music & Minimalism taking place in Knoxville.
Saturday evening finds Ellen Fullman’s Long String Instrument in an installation at the University of Tennessee’s Ewing Gallery in the Art and Architecture Building. The Memphis-born artist has developed the 70+ foot long instrument over a period of 30 years since the early 80s. She will perform Harbors with collaborator and cellist Theresa Wong.
With Sunday comes the Finale Marathon concert at the Mill & Mine (227 W. Depot Ave.) from roughly 2 PM till 11 PM. Expected works include music by Pauline Oliveros, Steve Gisby, Marc Mellits, Michael Gordon, Louis Andriessen, Molly Joyce, Philip Glass, Janice Giteck, Michael Pisaro, Steve Reich, Philip Corner, Mary Jane Leach, Brooks Fredericksen, and Christopher Adler.
The venue is perfect for this event as listeners can listen and engage or take a break and have some food/drink in the outside courtyard.
Non-pass tickets: $15 for Saturday evening; $35 for Sunday’s Marathon.
