Now in its 14th year, the Knoxville Film Festival has grown from its previous incarnation as the Secret City Film Festival into a major event for local cinephiles, both filmmakers and film-goers. Moved from Oak Ridge in 2013 by its founder and executive director, Keith McDaniel, the festival now inhabits the Regal Downtown West Cinema 8, an arthouse cinema venue, Â for a three day splurge. This year’s festival runs Friday-Sunday, September 15 – 17, under sponsorship from Regal Entertainment Group, Carson-Newman University, Tennessee Entertainment Commission, and Film/Knox.
Programming for the festival includes 7 Narrative Features, 5 Documentary Features, 11 Documentary Shorts, 34 Narrative Shorts, 5 Web Series films, and the Filmmaker Competitions. The competitions include the STUDENT FILMMAKING COMPETITION, the 7-DAY SHOOTOUT FILMMAKING COMPETITION, and the TENNESSEE 10 BEST OF THE BEST FILMMAKING CHALLENGE.
Festival-goers have the option of either purchasing a full FESTIVAL PASS ($50/$30 students) for all three days, or individual FILM BLOCK tickets at $10 each. Advance purchases can be made online. Passes and tickets will also be available on-site inside the venue, Regal Downtown West Cinema 8, at the Knoxville Film Festival Box Office.
