Season after season, the Amadeus Concert Ensemble has taken its audience in the Cathedral Concert Series on a number of enlightening journeys, sometimes to familiar locales, but just as often, to charming and intriguing, but less-visited musical destinations. ACE is opening its 2025-26 season with “Polish Classics,” an exploration of four of Poland’s most prolific and revered composers — Moritz Moszkowski, Henryk Wieniawski, Fryderyk Chopin, and Stanisław Moniuszko. The concert, under the baton of ACE Artistic Director Brian Salesky, will offer a mix of instrumental and vocal works.
The prolific Moritz Moszkowski (1854 – 1925) is represented on the concert by the popular Spanish Dance, Op. 12 No. 1, heard here in its orchestral arrangement. Maestro Brian Salesky will follow with the From Foreign Lands Suite, Op.23.
Violinist Zofia Glashauser will be heard in virtuosic works by Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880): Légende, Op. 17 and the Polonaise Brillante No. 1, Op. 4.
Of course, no exploration of Polish composers would be complete without the inclusion of Fryderyk Chopin. Heard on the concert are a selection of songs: Życzenie (A Maiden’s Wish), Op. 74 No. 1, Dwojaki Koniec (Double End), Op. 74 No. 11, and Wojak (The Warrior), Op. 74 No. 10. The alto soloist will be Diana Salesky.
Soprano Linda Barnett, tenor John Overholt, and baritone Joel Brown, will be heard in selections from Stanisław Moniuszko’s opera Halka.
