Wise theatre-goers plan ahead, a particularly good move in Knoxville these days as its theatre world has been growing and expanding before our very eyes. Enjoying not only growth but also longevity, the Clarence Brown Theatre is preparing for the 2026 – 2027 season—its 52nd. With the opening in 2026 of the state-of-the-art Jenny Boyd Theatre to replace the Carousel Theatre, CBT is once again sporting three different venues that are able to present a broad range of theatrical content, running the gamut from intimate dramas to large-scale musicals.
Season ticket schemes are still available for the schedule of eight productions, offering traditional selection from the list of productions, as well as flexible arrangements in choosing dates and seats. Oct 1 – 18, 2026 — The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
Adapted by Dwayne Hartford from the Kate DiCamillo novel.

Oct 28 – Nov 15, 2026 — Clyde’s
By Lynn Nottage, the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright of Sweat and Ruined, Clyde’s received four Tony Award nominations following its 2021 premiere on Broadway.

Nov 19 – Dec 19, 2026 — A Christmas Carol
This ever-so popular adaptation by Edward Morgan and Joseph Hanreddy with music by John Tanner is based on the Charles Dickens novella. The production first appeared on the CBT stage in 2016, subsequently returning for three more years before the pandemic closure of 2020. It returned in 2023 and again in 2024 and 2025. Although the production has been tweaked, augmented, and improved by CBT’s creative forces, the original premise remains happily intact.

Feb 3 – 21, 2027 — Appropriate
This play by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, developed in 2011 and premiered by Actors Theatre of Louisville, eventually found its way to Broadway in 2023, receiving three Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Play.

Feb 25 – Mar 7, 2027 — Indoor Cats – A Play for Humans
By Mora V. Harris, this play received its first production in 2023 at Chicago’s Red Theatre.

Mar 24 – Apr 11, 2027 — What the Constitution Means To Me
Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me premiered on Broadway in March 2019 with Schreck herself in the leading role.

Apr 14 – May 2, 2027 — She Loves Me
She Loves Me is a musical with a book by Joe Masteroff, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The musical is an adaptation of the 1937 play Parfumerie by Hungarian playwright Miklós László. It first ran on Broadway in 1963, but enjoyed a revival in 1993 and an even more popular one in 2016 that garnered eight Tony Nominations and a Drama Desk win as Best Revival of a Musical.
